What is hemp fabric?
Hemp fabric is made from the plant "cannabis sativa." which is also often referred to as the marijuana plant. Growing from the hemp seed into a mature plant in 90-140 days and is a high-yield crop producing 2-3 times more fiber per acre than either cotton or flax. It is the outside of the stalk, the bark fiber that is used to produce hemp textiles using extremely long fibers which are then spun into threads for use. Hemp cloth is much stronger and more versatile than other fabrics and only gets better with age, with its tensile strength being eight times that of cotton fiber.
Hemp for you
Hemp fabric makes you feel good because:
· It breathes and wicks moisture better than cotton leaving you feeling fresh
· It is an efficient insulator keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer
· It is UV protective, so ideal for holidays in the sun
· It is hypo-allergenic and non-irritating to the skin with current tests indicating that hemp is able to kill staph and other bacteria that come in contact with its surface
Hemp is often considered an environmental "super fiber" as:
· It requires no pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to grow
· It needs very little water to grow
· It actually nourishes the soil in which it is grown leaving nutrient rich farmland for rotation crops
