Functional property of original bamboo:
Anti-bacterial, Anti- Ultraviolet and deodorant function etc of original bamboo fiber is much stronger than one of bamboo pulp fiber. The production process of bamboo pulp fiber is similar to that of viscose. The bamboo strips are firstly processed into pulp, which is then further processed into pulp sheet before it is finally manufactured into bamboo fiber through the wet spinning process. Disadvantages of this kind of bamboo fiber processing are visible deterioration of the fiber’s properties such as antibacterial, deodorant and ultraviolet radiation resistant because of the destroyed natural characteristics of the bamboo during process of preparation.
The process flow for original bamboo fiber and bamboo pulp fiber as following:
1. Original bamboo fiber (directly picked up from bamboo):
Raw bamboo → bamboo strip → steaming of bamboo strip → crushing and decomposing → biological enzyme degumming → fiber carding →natural original bamboo fiber
2. Bamboo pulp fiber:
Raw bamboo -> thick pulp -> fine pulp -> bamboo pulp fiber
Recently on a science television show, there was a segment about bamboo fibre and how safe it is. I have attached a link below to the short TV video. I have highlighted the text of the video below in green.

NARRATION
Viscose is produced by taking a cellulose source, most commonly woodchips, which is then dissolved in sodium hydroxide and carbon disulphide. This solution is pushed into threads through a device like a showerhead. The fibres are drawn out through an acid bath that makes them go hard, producing a viscose fibre ready for spinning.
Tara Afrin
In viscose production method, we are mainly concerned about carbon disulphide. It is highly toxic, and bad really bad for workers' health. They are dissolving bamboo in those harmful chemicals.
NARRATION
So it seems bamboo fabric isn't as green as we've been led to believe. But what of the claims of the material's unique properties?
Tara Afrin
We found the UV blocking property and anti-bacterial property of the commercial bamboo fibre that is basically viscose is missing. That means their claims, they are not true.
NARRATION
The good news is Tara believes she's come up with an alternative method for processing bamboo fibre.
Tara Afrin
We are using mechanical process with the aid of bio-enzymes and less harmful chemicals, with less water, less energy, to get our bamboo fibres. I'm looking forward to get natural bamboo fabric hundred per cent eco-friendly, hundred per cent green, with all the unique properties of bamboo present in it, into the market.
